Transition: In last week’s text, Boaz did exactly what Naomi predicted. He went to the city gate to look for thecloser kinsman to solve the issue of Ruth’s redemption. The closer kinsman agreed to redeem Naomi and her land, but when Ruth was introduced into the equation, he had a change of heart.

Check Point: Would anyone like to share something they worked on from last week’s discussion?

Context: In our text today, Ruth and Boaz marry, and God blesses them with a son. The women see the child as a blessing for Naomi’s future. The final verses trace the lineage of Boaz which would eventually lead up to Jesus, the Messiah.

• What is the Holy Spirit teaching you through this story? How does it impact the way you think and live?

• In time, God’s providential purpose became clear. Share a period in your life when God’s purpose became clearer as time went on. What did you learn from the experience How does this story give you hope that God is working even when you cannot see it?

• This story is filled with seemingly ordinary events like travel, marriages, death, harvest, and sleeping, which all reveal the guiding hand of God. How does this story impact the way that you see the seemingly ordinary events in your own life?

• The book of Ruth is filled with blessings and benedictions. How does this personally challenge the way you use your words toward others and God?

• Ruth (a Gentile Moabite) is included in the geneaology of Christ. What does this tell us about God’s heart for the nations? How does this impact your view of cultures different than yours?
