Giving at Providence
Generosity is one important way that we live the life of a disciple of Jesus. According to Jesus, our generosity includes our time, our abilities, and our money. Jesus modeled this generosity for us by giving his life for us.
At Providence, giving your money is about fulfilling the mission of the Jesus in the world through the local church. There are three ways to give at Providence.
Firstfruits to the Storehouse
Firstfruits is a concept from the Bible that means we give to God first, and trust him to provide for our needs. Storehouse is another biblical idea that refers to the resources needed for carrying out ministry. A tithe, or a tenth, is a good biblical starting point for your “storehouse” giving. This giving pays the staff, keeps the facility up and running, and provides for ministries within the church. This is the first way Providence members give. Another way churches refer to this kind of giving is “tithes and offerings.”
Missions giving is separate from the operating budget of Providence. Through your missions giving, we support international church planting efforts, local ministries like KARM and Hope Resource Center, and short term mission trips. Giving generously to missions helps to take the message of Jesus to the world and establish churches that can keep doing the same.
In order to be responsible stewards of the resources God has given us, Providence wants to eliminate the debt we currently owe on our facility. Giving to debt reduction will allow us to budget more toward doing ministry and less toward servicing debt.
